Stalefish Grab

Skill: land a stalefish grab off a jump

Switch: Can be ridden switch

Prerequisites: Indy Grab Frontside Shifty

What this trick is

The Stalefish is a back-hand grab on the heel edge, between your feet — the heelside cousin of the Indy.

How to do it

  1. Ride in open. Let your chest turn to face down the hill more than usual. That's what gives you room to twist in the air.
  2. Pop and reach. Tuck your knees up and take your back hand behind your back leg to the heel edge, between the bindings. Bring the board to your hand, don't fold over to chase it.
  3. Release early. Let go as the landing comes up, hand back out, ride away.

Common mistakes

  • Riding in square and stiff — no room to twist, grab feels out of reach.
  • Bending at the waist instead of tucking the knees.
  • Holding the grab all the way to the snow.

Making it look good

Poke your back leg out while you hold the grab and extend your front arm the other way. Same trick, twice the style
