Toeside Turning
Source: Lagoon Watersports · channel
A toeside turn means pressing your toes down so the toe-side edge of the board cuts the water. You face away from the cable, which feels unnatural at first. It's harder than a heelside turn because the position is less stable and mistakes come easier. Rotate your hips toward the cable and keep the handle low near your front hip. At this level, avoid turning toeside on the approach to an obstacle or kicker. The toe edge catches the water more easily than the heel edge, and you can slam down hard.
Once your toeside turn is solid, a whole second half of the sport opens up. Every switch heelside line, every frontside spin, every toeside grab starts from being comfortable on this edge.

Key tips
- Rotate your hips, not just your shoulders
- Keep the handle low. Pulling it up will flatten the board
- Start with gentle toeside edges on straights
- Practice switching between heelside and toeside smoothly
- Think "chest open to the cable" so your shoulders stop twisting shut
- If you catch toe edges, you're leaning on the front foot. Push your back hip forward a touch
