Kicker BS180 (S-Kicker)

Source: JB ONeill · channel

The backside counterpart to the kicker FS180. Same kicker, same airtime, but you rotate the other way, turning your back toward the cable as you leave the ramp. Most riders find BS180s feel more "blind" than frontside because you lose sight of the landing for part of the rotation.

Approach on a heelside edge exactly like a straight air, then initiate the rotation from your back shoulder as you pop off the lip.

The trick to backside 180 is not to try to cheat it early. Let your arm extend a bit while you’re on the kicker and wait until you are completely off the kicker to initiate the rotation by pulling the handle to your front hip and then rolling it over to the small of your back as you are rotating. You want to stay crouched so you can keep your chest over your toes on the landing to ride away.

Key tips

  • Get comfortable with straight airs off the S-kicker first
  • A few good surface bs 180’s first to get the handle control down
  • Then get someollie bs 180’s going to get used to the landing
  • Initiate the spin at the lip, not before. Spinning early on the ramp kills your pop
  • Lead with the back shoulder. The hips and board follow
  • Look over your front shoulder to spot the landing
