Popping / jumping on a snowboard

Skill: do jumps on the slope while riding

What you'll learn

Learning to pop or jump on a snowboard is one of the most useful beginner freestyle skills. A “pop” is a small explosive movement that lifts the snowboard off the snow. It comes from bending and extending your legs while using the flex of the snowboard

The idea

Popping is useful for improving balance and board control. It is also the introduction to learning and ollie and other beginner freestyle tricks

Steps

A "pop" on a snowboard is jumping of both feet at the same time. The jump happens from pushing the feet down and the lifting the knees. This is the easiest way to do your first jump.

  1. First step - Do a pop of both feet on flat ground
  2. Second step - Do progressively bigger pops on the toe-side edge
  3. Third step - Do progressively bigger pops on the heel-side edge (be careful as they are very tricky)

These must be completed before trying your frist 180 on flatground
