Five-o grind 5-0 grind (on a ledge)
Source: SKATE HACKS
- Skill:
- grind a ledge on only the back truck with the front wheels in the air
- Switch:
- Can be ridden switch
- Prerequisites:
- Fifty-fifty grind
What this trick is
A 5-0 grind is where the back truck slides along a ledge/coping whilst the front truck and wheels are in the air. Think a 5050 grind but with a manual!
Before you try it
Be comfortable ollying onto a ledge into 5050 and also ollie to manual on a ledge!
Start with a low ledge or waxed curb!
How to do it
- Approach the ledge as you would for a 5050 grind
- Pop an ollie and turn your shoulders and hips slightly so your back truck lands on top of the ledge. Keep your weight over the back truck and your front foot raised to hold the 5-0 position. Stay balanced as you ride out the grind.
- As you approach the end of the grind, guide your front truck down, turning your shoulders to let the board come off the ledge. Absorb the landing before rolling away smoothly.
Common mistakes
-
Leaning too far back - It feels like you're about to fall backwards or the board slips out behind you. Keep your shoulders over the board and your weight centred above the back truck, rather than hanging your upper body behind it.
-
Not lifting the front truck enough - Your front wheels catch the ledge, or you accidentally turn the trick into a 50-50. Practise holding the nose up during the grind; think back truck locked in, front truck lifted.
##Helpful hints
Try 5-0 stalls from a 90 degree angle first without a slide to practice getting into position. Slowly decrease the angle and increase speed until you start to grind.
Don't worry about scraping the tail. Unlike a manual it's quite common to 5-0 grind with the tail sliding too!
