    Backside Lipslide (Rail)

Skill: Ollie on a rail facing backward with rear foot over the rail

    Switch: Can be ridden switch

    Prerequisites: Ollies Backward Slide (Box)

A backside lipslide is the backward slide taken to a rail. You approach with your back to the feature, ollie, and bring your rear foot up and over the rail so the board sits across it at 90 degrees.

The thing that catches people is the approach. Because your back faces the rail, the edge of your board clips it easily if you ride in too close. Give it a little room, ollie high enough to clear it, then swing the rear foot over. Land with a flat base, keep the handle at your front hip, and look at the end of the rail. At the end, push off the feature and ride away.

    Key tips

    • Don't ride in too close. Your back is to the rail, so the edge clips before you can pop
    • Ollie high enough that the rear foot clears the rail, then bring it over
    • Land with your knees bent and your weight centred
    • Keep the handle close at your front hip. Don't let it drift behind you
    • Keep your head still and your eyes on the end of the rail
