Surface Wheelies & Tail Presses

Surface Wheelies & Tail Presses

Surface wheelies and tail presses are balance tricks done on flat water. A wheelie means riding on just the tail of the board with the nose lifted. A tail press is similar but with more style and control. These build the board control needed for advanced obstacle tricks.

Key tips

  • Shift your weight gradually to the back foot
  • Keep the handle close to prevent being pulled off balance
  • Start with short presses and extend the duration as you improve
  • Practice in both regular and switch stances
