A power slide is an aggressive sideways slide where you spray water by carving hard and releasing the edge. It's a [side slide](/wakeboarding/side-slide) with style and power, and the spray is half the fun. Approach with speed, rotate the board 90 degrees, and press hard into the water to create a wall of spray.

The move depends on commitment. Riders who slow down halfway catch the edge and eat it. Pick a line, commit, and ride it out. It builds directly on [hard edging](/wakeboarding/hard-edging) - you need that level of edge pressure to throw real spray.

## Key tips

- Build up speed before initiating the slide
- Commit to the rotation. Half-hearted attempts catch the edge
- Press hard through your heels or toes depending on the slide direction
- Use power slides to set up power slide 180s later
- Do it on a straight with the line tight. Slack makes the slide wobbly
