Toeside Riding
Toeside riding means pressing your toes down so the toe-side edge of the board cuts the water. You face away from the cable, which feels unnatural at first. It is harder than heelside: the position is less stable and mistakes come easier. Rotate your hips toward the cable and keep the handle low near your front hip. At this level, do not ride toeside on the approach to an obstacle or kicker—the toe edge is more likely to catch the water than on heelside, and you can slam down hard.
Once you are solid, toeside unlocks many advanced tricks and line options.
Key tips
- Rotate your hips, not just your shoulders
- Keep the handle low — pulling it up will flatten the board
- Start with gentle toeside edges on straights
- Practice switching between heelside and toeside smoothly
