## What this trick is

Slappy boardslide is a boardslide variation executed on an obstacle low enough to not require an ollie (usually a double sided curb). As you approach the curb, you lift your front wheels and pivot the board 90 degrees before setting the centre of the deck over the curb/rail. You then slide along it with the underside of the deck, before turning back out and riding away.

## Before you try it

Be comfortable riding the board and performing tricks at speed. Practice approaching the obstacle slowly from 90 degrees and balancing on it in the boardslide position, without sliding.

## How to do it

1. **Foot Placement** - Front foot on the pocket of the nose at a slight angle, back foot over the pocket of the tail.
2. **Approach side on** with the curb with knees bent
3. **Initiate the turn** with your leading arm/elbow. Shoulders and hip will follow
4. **Step your front leg** over the curb and push down, bringing your arms up for balance, and straighten legs slightly (not fully)
5. **Balance** as you ride the boardslide out. Lean forwards to avoid slipping out.
6. **Turn out** of the trick by intiating the turn with your arm/elbow again (in the direction you came from)
7. **Lift your leg** back over the curb and press the wheels back down onto the ground

## Common mistakes

**Approaching at the wrong angle**

Approaching too sideways makes it harder to lock into the slide.

Fix: Approach at a slight diagonal and gradually turn your board parallel to the ledge.

**Not getting enough speed**

Too little speed makes you stick or stop as soon as your board hits the curb.

Fix: Build up comfortable rolling speed. Start on a low, smooth curb. Wax if needed.

**Not committing to the slide**

Hesitating halfway into the trick often leaves the board stuck against the curb or makes you step off.

Fix: Look along the ledge, commit to the turn, and keep your momentum moving forward.

**Forgetting the exit**

You might get onto the curb successfully but fall when the board comes off because your weight is too far back or your shoulders are twisted.

Fix: Keep your knees bent, turn your shoulders toward the direction of travel, and let the board roll away naturally.
