## What this trick is

Axel Stall is a trasition trick where both trucks straddle the coping with 2 wheels either side (in a 5050 position) whilst balancing on the deck of the ramp. The standard variation is executed backside (covered here), and frontside is considered the more difficult of the two.

## Before you try it

You should be comfortable with pumping a mini ramp or half pipe, axle drop-in and backside kickturns.

## How to do it

**On the way up!**

1. In your usual riding position, approach the ramp with just enough speed to ride up and out onto the deck. Approach the coping head on rather than at an angle.
2. As you ride up the ramp, lift your front wheels to clear the coping.
3. As your back wheels get close to the coping, turn your back to the ramp, throwing your weight back slightly to stand tall on the deck.
4. Your toe side wheels should lock in on the coping as you balance on top of the ramp.

**Dropping Back in!**

5. Slide your back foot towards the coping so that the heel side wheel rests against it.

6. Kickturn 90 degrees into the ramp and lean forwards into the drop-in.

7. Keep leaning forwards as you roll back down the transition!

## Common mistakes

- **Going too slow**. You need to be going fast enough that you naturally ride up and onto the deck without forcing it.
- **Turning too soon**. Pick a point around a boards width past the coping and aim for that when you turn. Aiming for the coping will keep you too far inside the ramp.

## How to know you've got it

You can axle stall and hold your position for as long as you like before dropping back in. You can excecute this on ramps of differing heights and mellowness.
